The trinity is one of the most difficult doctrines to study and to teach. It is also one of the most important ones to discuss, because misunderstandings of it has led to groups presenting a false presentation of the trinity, and also groups have written about the doctrine of the trinity falsely.
A spectrum with just one God ( and no Son, and no Spirit) at one end, and with three Gods at another end is a good picture of false doctrine about the Trinity. The beliefs that come from false teachings about the trinity are tritheism and unitarianism. Tritheists belief the trinity is three gods, and unitarianism see God as one in nature and one in person. They deny the deity of Jesus, and also the deity of the Holy Spirit.
One of my personal beliefs about Christians today in the 21st century is that not a lot of them do not understand the Trinity as much as they should. Even I do not fully grasp the Trinity, and I spent at least four years of my life in Seminary. I could not imagine of those that never went to Seminary, and they have not maybe even try to understand the Trinity. Now we do not have to go to Seminary to begin to understand the Trinity, because God will reveal it to those that truly seek Him for understanding Him more.
When Christians come across non-believers that are very smart about the Bible, they may hear them say something like this, in the Bible there is no such word as the trinity. Now they are correct with this statement, so how would non-Christians provide a reason to justify the Trinity? Now we live in the 21st century, so the answer of you just need more faith will not cut it. We must live the words out from 1 Peter 3:15 to give reason about the hope we have to every man that asks about it, so we must do the best we can to explain with sound reason about the Trinity.
The lesson I taught about the Trinity could help you begin to understand the Trinity more, and I hope it encourages you to read more about the Trinity from other sound biblical resources. Now we may never fully grasp God, because He’s God. Yet, that does not mean for us to be lazy when it comes to understanding Him more.
